Back where I belong
What returning to Sacrimony has meant to me 🖤📚
Hi there Goat Herd,
With just 6 days left to go for the Sacrimony #9 campaign, I’ve got to say, it’s been great to be back.
We’ve already hit our first stretch goal and we’re $10 away from hitting the next one.
But when people look at a Kickstarter, they usually focus on the obvious things: how fast it funded, how many backers, how much was raised. And sure, those things matter, but they’re not the whole story.
For me, this campaign means returning to work that makes me feel alive.
Yes, the day job can help pay the bills so I don’t have to stress out about finances, however it doesn’t fulfill me the same way art and writing do. I find myself desperately scrambling like some kind of art junkie to ink a panel or shade a face in the few moments of downtime I get between working my cases and those are the kinds of moments that keep me going in an otherwise spiritually unfulfilling job.
Stepping back into Sacrimony after more than a year away from releasing a new issue and realizing the connection never went anywhere is amazing.
I can’t quite explain why I like working on this story so much or why I constantly feel the need to because really: I just enjoy it.
I can’t describe the kind of joy I feel when I map out the next complete story arc and how surprised I even am sometimes at where the story can go and what my characters are capable of. I can’t describe the excitement I feel when I get to plan out how each scene will look, what details the background will have, the architectural inspiration, the faces, how much body language can say without having a character utter a word and most importantly: what the characters will be wearing.
I need to keep going.
Coming back to Kickstarter has also reminded me how much I enjoy sharing Sacrimony with others, how much it thrills me to see readers return and meet new ones who’ve decided to jump into this tale of love, life and death (in no particular order).
It really feels like we’re all working together to build each new issue and there’s something beautiful about that.
So if you’ve backed already, thank you.
If you’ve been thinking about joining us, Sacrimony #9 is live right now with just six days left to go.
And if you’re new to the series, you can catch up with all 9 issues, which is over 300 pages of story.
This issue contains some of the strongest art I’ve done so far, and I’m proud of what it became.
Talk soon,
-M 🖤
